the system, and relate to server and resource use. They warn about security and
access problems, user session problems, server shutdown because of power loss

Replication
|
|
Replication sets up identical directories on
different Windows NT computers. The purpose of replication is to enable load
balancing (minimizing bottlenecks) for frequently accessed information.
Replication replicates: logon scripts, system policy files, common information,
etc., in a domain or multiple domains. The Master
Directory is on an assigned Windows NT Server
only. Updates made to this directory are replicated to other
computers. Any files or folders deleted from the export directory will be
removed from the import directory. The import directory will be made to match
the export directory exactly.
Replication will only occur
between computers with system clocks that are 59 minutes apart at the most ;
Servers in different time zones will NOT replicate
Requirements for Directory Replication:
| Configuring an Export Server |
|
1. Create the "Repl" User
2. Configure the Directory
Replicator Service (as shown
below)
|
|
Press "OK." Successful configuration will yield the following message:
|
|
3. Place folders and documents for export
in subdirectory of %system root%\ System32 \ Repl \
Export
4. Grant Full Control
Permissions to the
Replicator Group on the
Export Server
5. > Highlight the Computer
Account > Computer > Properties >
> and
configure as shown below:
|
|
In "To List," you can configure to
export to other computers as shown above or to other
domains. The "Manage"
button contains Advanced Export Options. The defaults, as shown below, will be
fine.

| Configuring an Import Server |
|
1. Create the "Repl" User ONLY IF IMPORT COMPUTER IS NOT
PART OF EXPORT SERVER'S DOMAIN OR IN A TRUSTING DOMAIN. IF ACCOUNT MUST
BE CREATED, IT MUST HAVE SAME NAME AND PASSWORD AS ACCOUNT USED TO CONFIGURE
EXPORT SERVER BECAUSE ACCOUNT MUST HAVE PERMISSION TO ACCESS EXPORT SERVER'S
REPL$ SHARE. Configure it exactly as you did on the export server
including it being a member of the
Replicator Local Group and
Backup Operators Local Group
2. Configure the Directory
Replicator Service (same as on export
server)
3. Grant Full Control
Permissions to the
Replicator Group on the
Import Server
